Ok, nobody is gonna believe this but here a goes.
I left a friend's house in Manhatten at 11:15. At that hour it usually takes me
50-60 minutes to get home. The trip started out great. I made it over the 59th
St. Bridge and was heading south to get on the LIE (Lawn Guyland Expressway)
making great time but then there was a barricade at the entrance to the LIE.
I waited there 20 minutes then a herd of elephants, yes, real live elephants, about
20 of them and a few people slowly came from the other direction with a police
escort and I guess went through the Midtown Tunnel to Manhatten but I really
don't know where they went. Afterwards the barricade wasn't removed I had to drive
a few miles in bad traffic to get on the LIE further east. I made it home just
before 1:00. Anybody care to guess what was going on? I had no idea what I was
waiting for and was starting to get really pissed then when I saw the elephants I
started laughing. When the last elephant was out of site I was really happy figuring
the ramp would soon be open so it was really upsetting when the cops closed off the
ramp again. Since when do elephants get the right of way in Queens? Oh and before
anyone asks I didn't have anything to drink today.
