I've just been musing about something this morning. I'm thinking about how the Olsen book has some designs for a down-draft wood-fired kiln, which in many ways, is just a really large version of a typical downdraft woodstove, but with quite a tall chimney on it.

I got to wondering what modifications might need to be made to a standard down-draft woodstove to turn it into a kiln of some kind... (Yep..anxious to be experimenting RIGHT NOW, just 'cause I'm so curious to try a couple of things). I happen to have a spare down-draft sitting around doing nothing out in a storage area of my studio. Starting to wonder if it could be fixed up with a welded "chamber" through which the hot gases from the fire chamber could pass before going up an insulated chimney..?? Ever seen anyone modify such a thing. Obviously, it would just be a small thing for a few pieces, but for what I'm thinking of right now, it would be big enough to tide me over until I get something larger built late this summer... Hmmmm... (oh, and yep, we're back into the insomnia part of the cycle) (o:
