SPD Inc. Appoints First U.S. Distributor of SPD-Smart Products Focus on Architectural Skylights
INCHEON, South Korea & PLANTATION, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 20, 2002--SPD Inc. of South Korea has appointed SPD Systems, Inc. of Plantation, Florida as its first U.S. distributor for SPD-Smart(TM) products focused on architectural skylights. Commercial buildings and residential homes that use skylights as skyroofs, sunrooms, solariums and atriums can use SPD glass in skylights to vary the amount of light passing through these panels while shielding interiors from glare and damaging sunlight.
SPD-Smart(TM) architectural skylights sold by SPD Systems can be used in new and existing commercial buildings, public facilities, special projects, and residential homes.
``We believe this appointment will play an important part in the rollout of our overall marketing and distribution plan,'' explains Byoung Chan Lee, President of SPD Inc., in Incheon.
So-Young Kim, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for SPD Systems, states: ``We plan to make SPD skylights available through a variety of channels. We have already contacted companies who we consider most capable of wholesaling and retailing a premium product like SPD. The price to end-users will be in the same bracket as the prices for existing double- and triple-glazed skylights that use manual and electric blinds and controls. A major benefit with SPD is controlling the amount of light with no moving parts.''
The double-glazed construction of an SPD skylight IGU uses Low-E glass along with an SPD lamination. This not only makes this skylight very energy efficient, but it is also shatter-resistant and noise attenuating. The U-Factor is anticipated to approach that of triple-glazed skylights. Additionally, one can vary the amount of light coming through manually or automatically, which increases a skylight's utility and it becomes an interactive component of the building or home. Exciting effects can be achieved using multiple SPD skylights or with a multi-panel SPD skyroof.
These cutting-edge skylights will be made available through architects, contractors, wholesalers and retailers as well as through SPD Systems' company website. Orders can be taken now for April 2002 delivery. The company will keep inventory of selected standard-size units.
Representatives from SPD Inc. and SPD Systems, Inc. will be at Research Frontiers' booth 1307 at the National Glass Association's NGA Show 2002 in Houston, Texas, March 20th through 22nd.
