I believe the magnet school program allows equal access to schools. By allowing schools to have different 'specialities', you achieve more of a voluntary diversity, rather than a forced and artificial diversity.

However, it is not perfect. The 'Haves' will always have more, by definition. A check of the local high school web pages shows one of the 'have' schools having three introductory Computer Science classes, three advanced classes (including Web Design), and three full-time CS instructors. One of the 'have not' schools has 1 intro and 1 intermediate CS class. Maybe by offering more advanced classes at the lower income schools, we can start to level the playing field without controversial bussing policies.
