| Ann, At this point in time, it is not economically expedient to use the alternative sources of energy known to man. A huge push for solar power was made some years ago, and it fell flat because of the original investment, and maintenance. In California, they have all of those funny looking windmills out on the desert, and they may solve a sparsely populated need for energy, but are no cost efficient enough to be expanded. I think we all know that nuclear energy is in our future, but many precautions, and preparations, must be made before it goes full scale. There are already a number of nuclear power plants that are doing just fine, but they are not enough to carry the load. Any future nuclear power plants, IMO, should be built to very stringent safety specifications to prevent any of the accidents that have happened to date. Until that time, oil is all we have that we can afford. |
