Maurice, I don't think Ramsey had NZ in mind for the Bulldog. Ramsey, who's the poodle? The bulldog I think Ramsey is thinking of is past its prime and slow, but lazy?

The British had their SAS their at the beginning, used their cruise missiles, and are refuelling US planes. They took over in the role of peacekeeping - a thankless job at the best of times, and almost hopeless in Afghanistan. Now they're sending another 1700 marines - in the Cold War their job was to defend Norway, so they are trained in mountain warfare.

Hopefully the pitbull will listen to the old bulldog who's been scratched badly a number of times down the years by all sorts of adversaries. Flailing gives short-term satisfaction, but a certain degree of stoicism is necessary. Perhaps it was a mosquito attack, rather than a cat. There are two things not to do: scratch at the site of infection, or carpet the region with DDT. One leads to a nasty infection, much worse than the bite, that saps the body directly; and the other destroys the ecosystem with unpredictable consequences.
