It would be out of the question for the Democrats to run McCain, so just forget about that one.

As to other viable candidates, here's the latest poll:

Scroll down about 1/3 of the way to election questions. My personal favorite would be Sen. John Edwards. He has a very good telepresence, not unlike the Shrub, and he's a relatively clean slate.

I believe Hillary Clinton would be far too divisive a candidate, and although I do find myself in sympathy with much of her political philosophy (as I do also with McCain's), she'd just make for far too fractious a campaign, IMO. Gore has undoubtedly had his one and only bite at the apple.
