Don Rhodes, I used to drive from the LA area up to Carson City, NV, and all I know about the environmental impact of those windmills, is that there are thousands out there attempting to generate electricity in a very sparsely populated area, and they are ugly on the landscape.
I agree that, before nuclear energy could be considered as the main source of electricity, there is a lot to be done to make them safer, and more dependable. IMO, the builders of these facilities were not held to stringent enough specs to insure that safety, but if fossil fuels truly begin to play out, we will have to find some sort of new source and, so far, solar has not been able to handle any kind of a load.
My comment about using the light from a fireplace was made with tongue firmly implanted in cheek. Those things don't even heat a room properly, much less provide enough light. |
