Regarding your mac address problem: Have you solved it? If not, are you using XP? If so, are you using ICS? Have you manually disabled SSDP? If you did, this may be your answer.

From an article in this month's SmartComputing magazine:

"Disabling UPnP in WinXP affects the operation of the ICS feature, which lets multiple Windows machines share a single connection to the internet through a WinXP system. If the UPnP capability is disabled, ICS clients will be unable to automatically detect the Internet gateway, and you will need to configure the gateway information manually on every client system."

If this fits your situation you can enable SSDP and download the UPnP patch and install it. Hope this helps.
