Adaptec (ADPT) 12.00 +0.27: ADPT is getting a boost (+2.3%) today from the positive comments of Banc of America which initiated coverage with a Buy rating and price target of $15. Firm believes ADPT is positioned to capitalize on the continued build-out of SAN (system area networking) infrastructure, particularly with emerging protocols like iSCSI and FCIP that bridge the worlds of ethernet and storage. With its acquisition of Platys, says company gains a head start in developing these next generation products. Firm notes that ADPT has design wins with Hewlett-Packard, McData, NEC, InRange, and ADIC, and believes these partners could turn out to be sizeable revenue opportunities in calendar 2003 and beyond.
