I can't shed any light on corn pone. I do remember seeing it.

No reason you should know anything about Cornwall, apart from the fact that its area equals that of: the ice that has just broken off Antartica; Rhode Island, or 9 times that of Singapore. It's also the first and last county of England. Lands End is in Cornwall, but that's pure chauvanism; it could be Lands Start.

The first transatlantic radio message came from Cornwall, and was received in Newfoundland.
The word Cornwall comes from the name given to its inhabitants by the Romans, Corn Wallis. Something about their weird hairstyles looking like corn dollies.

Thus, one might claim that radio communication and punk hairstyles started in Cornwall.
