hmaly, >Secondly, while what you say will be true for the short term, it would be quite likely, HPQ will revamp the desktop, portables, and server lines, to show off the new HPQ.

Why is it always so easy to make a counter argument? Here goes. When companies do something drastic, and the HP - Compaq merger defines the word, they usually try to calm their customers by not changing a whole bunch of other things too soon. For this reason, and the fact that Compaq was first to market with Intel based servers, I don't think they'll go switch from them to something quite different (like AMD) for a good long while. Especially since they have a good record with them and a ton of development time into the new products (Prestonia and Foster). HP? They started Merced even before Intel. I don't think they'll dump it.

After the merger, it looks like Compaq PCs and Intel based servers win out. HP Unix servers win out. Tandem is a no brainer, no competition from HP. Compaq storage wins. HP printers, duh! Services a mixed bag. Handhelds a tossup but I'd say Compaq. Miss anything major? Listing them makes you wonder why Compaq needed to do this.
