Most companies split stock when future earnings growth is highly certain and valuations can be safely supported by same. If AMAT split tomorrow, shares at 26. Not that far to take it into the teens, which I have to think they would like to avoid for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is perception by the uninitiated investor community.

The valuation at present is fairly rich, so a drop on any bad news, downgrades, general market selloff....whatever could draf them there. Usually this company splits at over 100 ....why now? Interesting.
