re: Operators will make money instantly if they add EDGE

==========

As opposed to GPRS - which was designed to lose money instantly?

The pitch is getting rather shrill.

Trying to tempt Euro carriers to take the bait..

Baptism with EDGEfantasies to wash away the memories of past promises.

Carriers will need substantial additional funds for many more base stations for GPRS to function... might as well add EDGE while they're at it?

It's like picking money off of trees... for the vendors.

Someone should tell AWE... they're spending all that time and money to rip off variable rate vocoders - when they get 300+% FREE capacity improvement with EDGE... and make money instantly! With all of that imminent free EDGE capacity, why is AWE going to the trouble?

Use EDGE in rural areas where wCDMA is too expensive - even though, ironically, a tighter pattern of base stations will be required?

Bumbling 3GSM vendors still haven't delivered viable GPRS networks, and they're well over 2 years late.

They'll deliver EDGEfantasies in 2003?

<g>

Carriers (other than desperate NA ones) can't be that gullable... can they?
