Sorry, Jewel OTW, your post got lost in a stream of unending numbers from a poster on SGBR.
In fact you seem to have over looked??? my agreement with this point
No. But your agreement did not require a response. I respect your stance.
It appears that you are against the death penalty as a matter of conscience and are using the inneffective justice system to support your arguement. I have absolutely no disagreement with you that inconclusive cases should be appealed as far as there is an avenue to do so and that since we will likely never have a perfect way to determine guilt or innocence, the death penalty should be abolished.
Total agreement.
I suspect that you don't like the idea of the death penalty for any of them, not because they may be innocent but because you just dont like the idea.
No. Any may be innocent. This world is fraught with corruption, incompetence, and plain bad luck. Many people have been exonerated in the last 25 years because strong evidence of their innocence was brought to light. The fact that it was fortuitous fortune and events OUTSIDE of the system makes it clear that those who were executed may have had evidence brought to light if fate and fortune had uncovered truth, or if their cases had not been closed by a coffin lid.
Truly, those who are guilty are the scum of the universe. What to do? I am in favour of all scum being exiled to private land guarded with the necessary number of soldiers. Thus they are not being punished but are merely being allowed to live with their own kind with the values they value. Give them a free knife on their way in and wish them a good night's sleep...
I am one of those who would like people to sleep in the beds they have made--not as guests to the rest of us with free room and board. Perhaps my notion of revenge (justice for those stuck in books) is to simply protect myself from people and let them be who and what they are. I agree it is exceedingly cruel, but it would also be their free choice.
Of course, we then run into the same problem we have with the present: What of those whom have been convicted through corruption, incompetence, or bad luck? I guess it would only be the 10 % or so who a panel of say 20 people could unanimously conclude were guilty who could satisfy this tiny streak of cruelty which I have.
OK. I was just being half serious. Many murderers should never ever get out. Some may be innocent, but as long as they live and as long as there are some indications of doubt (there usually are if they are truly innocent), time and hard work by concerned others may work in their favour.
"I don't represent anyone but myself when I say this but I would rather receive the death penalty than have long term incarceration. I consider life a worthy endeavor but realize that when avenues to living a purposeful life are severed without the possibility for resolution with my fellow beings, I do not see the point of continuing and consider such an existence one of torment"
My concern is that innocent people will likely wish to endure on the chance that they can return to their family and their world. I do not have a lot of concern for those whom have chosen values which treats the lives of people like spitting out the window. I would go so far, however, to allow them to choose suicide at anytime in any reasonable method. Hopefully that would cover your concerns...without imposing on anyone else your particular and personal ideas of when life is and isn't worth living... |
