I walked into a Guitar Center (GTRC) on a weekday afternoon and they were packed and doing business. My first and second choices in strings were out of stock and they seemed to be doing instrument business too.

OTOH, it's a lowish margin biz because of all the competition, at least in the New York area. And, lots of insider sells and no buys FWIW.
