I wonder if the traders are protecting themselves in case Canada retaliates against the US lumber tax. While it is being kept relatively quiet there has been some rumblings in the back rooms on Parliament hill that providing easy cheap access to our gas resources should be conditional on there being real free market access all around. I for one don't think we have much chance against the gorilla in a tit for tat tax war but the feeling by some is that its worth a shot. While we could get hurt badly short term the US would not be able to sustain a closing of the gas pipeline or a substantial resource tax on oil and gas without it effecting their economy as well.
