Oh well, ever since the end of WWII,
scandals, corruption, coverups, etc., etc., have been dogging the financial and political landscapes of America!
No doubt, the root cause of them all is the absolute power syndrome: All power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Next, there is the protection/advantage of the Fifth Amendment which may be used to good effect to delay proceedings.
