OT Kirk,

I sometimes wonder why the best professors often become deans, when they obviously have a gift for teaching and not necessarily administration. During my freshman year at Harvard in 1976, I took an introductory computer science class taught by Harry Lewis, who is now the dean there, and his extraordinary teaching assistant, Henry Leitner. To my complete surprise, it was the most fun of any class I had. Although I knew I wanted to major in economics, I enjoyed that introductory class so much that I automatically decided to enroll in the next class in the comp sci sequence, which happened to be PDP 11 assembly language. Big mistake. PDP 11 was so technical and dry that within three weeks I decided to drop the class and focus instead on economics.

It takes an extraordinary person to turn a somewhat dry subject into contagious fun. I only hope Professors Lewis and Hu are as successful as deans as they were as professors!

I am most interested in your vision for organic semiconductors. Could you elaborate a bit on what these devices are and how and when they will be used.

Sam
