As anybody remotely knowledgeable of the most elementary basics of GPRS well knows, all the GPRS systems "allow them to use the extra time in the same slot to mix GPRS data in that same slot", as engineer so eloquently puts it. AMR increases the capacity by enhancing the voice quality. Half Rate, which doubles the capacity but was little used due to voice quality concerns, has with AMR better sound than the traditional Full Rate. Thus the capacity can be doubled. - rajala
