Sure, I can too. But your question was whether we found it funny, offensive or both.

One of the things I loved about the joke that got this line of discussion going was that it was rather erudite in its inclusion of various US historical figures who, rightly or wrongly, have been referred to in schools for years as "the Founding Fathers" and "patriots". It was clever in that way and I took delight in that aspect as much as in the word play of "virgins" versus "Virginians".
