' Following the recent U.S. steel tariffs, the U.S. Commerce Department went forward Friday with a new duty on Canadian lumber. The agency found Canada guilty of illegally subsidizing its lumber industry and set a countervailing duty of 19.3% on shipments from Canada. In a research note released Friday, Prudential stated its belief that the new lumber duty could be a huge negative for American producers such as Plum Creek Timber (PCL), Louisiana-Pacific (LPX), and Weyerhaeuser (WY). It believes retailers such as Home Depot (HD) and Lowe's (LOW) may seek out new sources of supply from Siberia, New Zealand, Brazil and other nations, and expects those new sources of supply to remain entrenched after such a duty expires...
