Paula and Tomato:

I don't know how much time you have, but in spite of being retired for more than two years, I don't have time to look at what a chart was like a few months back. I don't have enough time to look at as many up to date charts as I would like, which is mainly what I am interested. WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW. The past is history and the only thing of value is to learn by mistakes you make so you try not to repeat them again. Doing some scans are helpful to draw your attention to patterns which in the past have been productive.

<<What constituted the buy signal?>> On a short term basis for me is when the shor term average is able to cross above the longer term average. Also "buy signals" are given when a stock is able to go through an important resistance point.(I try to keep things simple and don't look too much at stochastics, Bollinger bands, Williams %R,P&F,etc.)

Going back to the VLTS example you mentioned, you can no longer see the 15 minutes chart for March 7, (I usually look at the 15 minutes charts for early signals.<g>) but if you look at the daily chart you can probably see several points where the green(shorter average line ) is able to get above or below the red or longer average line. At those points there is usually a change in the trend, which I consider to be a "buy" or "sell" signal for the short term. Of course if you are looking at the daily chart you can probably notice that after the "buy signal" in late December the price was not able to get over the previous H in early January and that was an early sign of the starting down-trend which was confirmed with the "sell signal" by mid-January. Most of the time you should not wait that long to take your profits.<g>

I think you can see the cross over of the average lines on March 7 and also that the stock was able to go over the resistance at 2.50 (the previous Hs from mid-February) Actually the stock was finally able to go through it today.<g>And now should have to deal with the resistance at the 2.75 to 3 level (the Ls on January 10-14)<g>

As far as the significance of "volume", I think it is just essential to look at it. Not only you should look at the OBV, but also wether the heavier volume seems to be taking place in up or down-ticks.<g>

I guess that's enough for tonite.
