Maybe the word hasn't reached St. John's yet: Medieval scholasticism is dead. "Rational" doesn't quite cut it. You can get anywhere with pure reason.

I'll see if I can find any studies comparing 12 step programs to others.
They were for a long time, because of their own PR, considered the gold standard. THey are being increasingly questioned, with charges that their success is not nearly what they claim.
