At least up until the late middle ages, they were MORE civilized than Europeans, not less. It is rational to believe that there is something analogous to Mind and Intention behind the cosmos Maybe the word hasn't reached St. John's yet: Medieval scholasticism is dead. "Rational" doesn't quite cut it. You can get anywhere with pure reason. Got evidence? It is not in the same category as believing in the Tooth Fairy. Without evidence? It certainly is. Unless you can document your assertion, I cannot see it as other than a marked bias. No proselytizing accompanies these efforts? Surely you jest. I'll see if I can find any studies comparing 12 step programs to others. They were for a long time, because of their own PR, considered the gold standard. THey are being increasingly questioned, with charges that their success is not nearly what they claim.
