Lee,

The B58 program was an interesting experience since it was an engineering stop gap measure because of the push outs in the missile program. The Air Force needed a fast first strike capability and the B58 was the result of this requirement.

Was an engineer at GD on the plane and the Wing Commander helped me follow the plane into the Air Force - just across the runway. He put me in the Safety Office and was a busy girl since we lost a few of these planes. The 3 star jet aces from Korea entered the program plus a few B47 pilots. These aces were killers and fearless - they had to be to fly the B58 and come out of Korea alive. <ggg> We did have a navigator from one of the bomb runs to Japan on board.

Hope you enjoy your new experience where ever you go.

Joan
