And so today,
We received our "The New Yorker" and "Sunset". Yesterday "More" came to the mailbox on our road.. All good mags IMO.. I read them all, including "More" so I can learn what those hip women over 50 want.. I need all I can get... But I digress.. to use that time-worn, but useful phrase.
But tonight, I will move on to a article in the "The New Yorker" by Mark Singer.. on page 44.. "The High Mark".. A good writer, IMO, on a bad assignment..
He visits, Cooke City, Mt, a place I have been to, spent some time in, also crawled around the "New World Mining District" looking.. looking..
But the wrong slant was portrayed by Singer, IMO, when a eastern biased writer is sent West, especially to the intermountain west.. These types (the easterners) look only for stereo-typical "rednecks" to emphasize ...to rationalize.. a behavior.. That behavior being, that all westerners believe.. all resources of the West are unlimited and so they (the easterners) can USE and ABUSE with a clear conscious.. A frontier-mentality by those types and their enablers.. But unfortunately, the WEST has LIMITS to these resources and fortunatley many westerners realize that it is not unlimited.. But those types are not very often seeked out..
Because if we factor in a diversity of life forms, If we want them.. I want them, as others do too.. because I am, like the others, realize we are only time travelers with the other life forms through this realm we call life .. .. ..
And many easterners think, we out West all have the mind-set of a Cheney, Bush, Watt, etc. a selfish mindset if you will, imo.. They(those) might lead you to believe this, but in my experience they are so wrong.
But we ALL don't.. I don't and I should know, more than most.. Having been around most of the West and having so many friends and relatives that think the same..
Sometime I will tell you about it... |
