The MMX will definitely be 0.25 micron within the next year. I wouldn't expect the very first ones to be made on that process, however.

Intel has discussed doubling their on chip L1 cache size as well as improving the basic integer pipeline peformance. So, a newer process will be required to keep the die size small.

I have heard that the development of the 0.25 micron process is proceeding quite well. Intel has a separate development team working on a 0.18 micron process. As you must know, basic photolithography technology must be addressed before this can get off the ground.

Regarding etchers, I don't know whose they are using. The development FAB for this process is up in Oregon.

I'll check out what I can and let you know.

By the way, you seem to be quite an "etch" guy. Do you care to explain?

Paul
