I think it's a pretty big deal that, after 74 Academy Awards ceremonies, a black actress won the Best Actress award. I was also pleased to see that the Best Actor award went to Denzel Washington. These awards are widely known to be political. It says something about the movie industry that it took this long. It says even more that it chose last night to honor Poitier and give both Best Actor and Best Actress to African Americans. But I'll look for people with my plebian tastes to discuss it with. -g Will reread the Lemann article.... I missed the interview.
