John, you might be interested on Salman Rushdie's take on the American mood:

Nadine, as you might guess, this is my kind of talk. We did the right thing in Afghanistan (though I'm concerned about the follow through) but the administration has to face the populace on Iraq.

Rushdie's rumours sound bad. I have no idea whether his sources are good ones. I imagine not. But the folk he talked with on college campuses, the faculty, might and might be sharing them with him out of some sort of alarm.

How do you keep running across these things? First, the Walzer (I do know how you found it) and now the Rushdie.

The waves keep looking better and better.
