>And that's what needs to be done......get rid of Arafat and put in a triumvirate made up of two Palestinians and an outside Arab/Muslim. Then get a third party made up of Arabs, the UN? etc to go in and clean the Hamas out. And we do the underground stuff....thrown our resources in with Israeli Intelligence and locate the Hamas cells. Then, have the third party take them out.
It just doesn't work that way. I couldn't name two Palestinian leaders who wouldn't be at least as anti-Israel as Arafat is- Rajoub, Barghouti, Abu Ala... A year ago, many thought that Faisal al-Husseini would be a perfect partner for Israel, as he fully supported strict adherence to the Oslo agreement. However, he died, and when he did, it came out that he had had secret meetings with Arab leaders to try to convince them to support Oslo- he described the agreements as a Trojan Horse, and told the Arab leaders to "shut up and get in the horse", as he figured (as most of the other Arab leaders do), that a temporary peace and a Palestinian state could be used as a springboard for the eventual destruction of Israel.
Even the Arab members of Israeli Congress, like Ahmed Tibi and Azmi Bishara, call for Israel's eventual destruction. Bishara's on trial now for doing so.
The only prominent Palestinian that really seems to be supportive of Israel is Sari Nusseibeh, but he's more of a writer and orator than a politician, I believe.
