well we have had tariffs in this country for centuries now and they have been subject to much debate in the past. the higher prices for consumers argument is nothing new, nor are the rebuttals.

oftentimes prices rise, but not always. it is not a given.

tariffs have historically been used for a variety of reasons, not only because of pricing issues.
