I go one further. Illegals are not desirable at all. Saying they are less desirable implies that there is some level of acceptance, and there should be none. zero tolerance for them.
It's true that legals need to be assimilated but my way of handling that is to put a time limit on their green cards. 7 years, then citizenship, with the swearing of loyalty to the U.S. and it's ideals, or back you go. This idea of unlimited visitation (which is what it really is) is not the way to go on the issue, IMO.
