I have never been a either a socialist or a communist. I differ with the left on so many issues that your placing me there, generically, seems quite idiosyncratic of you. In a generic way, I agree with some notions that the left imperfectly pursues, to wit, that too much inequality in a society will lead to injustice and destabilization, and that corporations require monitoring, since they are run by greedy, short-sighted and imperfect beings, ie human ones-- beings like the rest of us.
On the other hand, I support Second Amendment rights, small government where the bedroom is concerned, racial profiling where race or ethnic type is a strong predictor; I oppose affirmative action, busing (always have), late abortion except in extraordinary circumstances, and I oppose many ACLU positions and don't support the organization because of this. I despise Political Correctness as often ludicrous, and as the attempted thought control it is.
I know you aren't a Nazi apologist!
Speaking of racial/ethnic profiling: I saw a 60 Minutes in which the subject was the risks we run as a nation under terrorist attack because such a small percentage of the freight that arrives in this country by sea can be checked. It seems that only 2% of the cargo is physically searched.
The official interviewed explained that the fact that they knew which 2% to search made the risks less great than they might appear to be. He listed, as the most important of the three criteria by which cargo for physical search were chosen, "country of origin."
Which sounds sensible to me. |
