richy, Any thing that is "ruthless" in essence, is bad. The capitalism of the US was not ruthless for a long time, even with the few barons of industry that were not the greatest guys in the world, but the globalization of almost all industry, and the element of greed that seems to have grown to staggering proportions in these times, is cause for concern. I believe we will see corrections happening with the failure of such corporations as Enron, and business might become more moderate in it's operations. Even so, I am very conservative in politics that concern national, and international, affairs. The US should never take the back seat, or give an inch, to any other nation in this world. If any American citizen is killed, retaliation is in order, by whatever force of arms it requires.
IMO, socialism fosters lethargy. In a system that controls the wealth, and provides for all the needs of it's citizen, there are too many of those citizens that will not work for the common good, because they know they can count on government hand-outs to sustain them. We, already, have too much socialism in this country, and as a result, are giving TLC to a fifth generation of welfare families, that can play the system well enough that they will never make any effort to provide for themselves, and remain a burden on the government coffers. |
