richy, I am not familiar with the "St. James" version of the Bible, but if you are referring to the King James Version, I am not in total agreement with it. I assume that Bible of Rodrigo the knucklehead is an attempt at humor. I consider myself a Christian, but am not fundamentalist to a fault, but some Christians have gone so far as to tell me that the King James Version is written in the language of God. Now, how ridiculous is that? God, IMO, has no specific language, and has not been seen to utter a word through larynx, mouth, or lips. BUT, He has communicated with certain men in the past in a variety of languages, and forms, with the clear indication that He is not to be ignored. God is omnipotent, and omnipresent, and the petty rules of mankind have no bearing on the truth of God.
As for turning the other cheek, with knowledge of possibly endangering myself on the other side, I cannot go along with that, nor will I love my enemies. I will avoid confrontation as long as possible, but in many cases confrontation is the only way to settle and issue. Remember, in many cases, those we are dealing with are not Christians, nor do they give a damn about Christian teachings. Throughout history, appeasement has proven to be a failure as a process toward peace, and has cost millions of lives unnecessarily. When enemies like Hitler, Tojo, Stalin, Sadaam, and Bin Laden, are around, if you turn the other cheek, you will get your head lopped off. |
