Comcast Launches Video On Demand In Northern New Jersey

304,000 Customers in the Company's Union and Plainfield Systems Gain Access to
Hit Movies and Special Programming, Without a Trip to the Video Store

UNION, N.J., March 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Comcast Cable Communications, Inc.
today announced the launch of its Video On Demand (VOD) service in the
company's Union and Plainfield, NJ cable systems. The launch will give
304,000 Comcast cable customers the opportunity to order movies and special
programming anytime they want, with complete VCR functionality, without
leaving their homes.
With VOD, Comcast customers in parts of northern New Jersey can select
from hundreds of new releases, classic movies, and special programs anytime of
the day or night via their digital cable box. Programs can be paused,
rewound, and fast forwarded, as well as be stored for up to 24 hours from time
of ordering, so customers can watch as often as they like.
"Comcast is dedicated to bringing our customers the best and most advanced
in-home entertainment," said Michael Doyle, president of Comcast Cable's
Eastern Division. "The company has invested millions of dollars in the
complete upgrade of our fiber optic cable network, in order to provide our
customers with cutting-edge services including digital cable and high-speed
Internet service. The launch of VOD in our northern New Jersey systems builds

Comcast systems in New Jersey and Pennsylvania over the next several months."
Comcast currently has three million VOD-ready homes within its 26-state
service area. In addition to Video On Demand services, customers who
subscribe to Comcast digital cable receive up to 270 channels, including
dozens of commercial-free premium movie channels, 45 channels of commercial-
free digital music, digital-quality picture, CD-quality sound and an
interactive on-screen guide.
New movie releases on Comcast Video On Demand cost $3.95 per movie (see
