These people — most believed to have incomes that would put them among the top 1 percent of taxpayers — "are using offshore cards to pay for living expenses," the I.R.S. said, from groceries to cars to college tuition for their children. They don't have to use offshore anything to pay those expenses. Their corporations pay for the new Mercedes for college-bound Buffy Sue. The exercise club and personal trainer go to "medical expenses". The two week family vacation to Disneyworld gets written off because of a dinner meeting to discuss business. Can't write the family member's flight off? No problem, all the company frequent flyer miles pay for that. Might as well share that huge suite with your family while the company pays for it. No, that's not what those offshore accounts are for. They are for depositing funds skimmed from the corps while no one was looking.
