Nokia Press Release

New Solution Enables Service Providers the Opportunity to Dramatically Reduce TCO of Data Center Based Security Services

Nokia (NYSE:NOK) today announced the latest in a series of major enhancements of the combined Nokia and Check Point Software Technologies (Nasdaq:CHKP) security appliance offering.

This enhancement will enable global service providers the ability to dramatically reduce the total cost of ownership related to offering data center based security services. This joint offering, integrating Check Point's VPN-1®/FireWall-1® VSX (announced earlier today) on the Nokia IP700 series security appliance, allows service providers to offer new flexible security services, while leveraging their existing investments in training, management systems, and network infrastructure.

Based on virtualization and the use of VLAN technology, this offering will give service providers the unique ability to implement dedicated or shared Internet security infrastructure based on individual customer requirements. This solution allows service providers to deliver discrete security solutions across multiple small and medium sized business customers at improved total cost of ownership and higher return on investment.

``Leveraging our success to date in the service provider market, we have collaborated with both Check Point and our leading customers to deliver this solution,'' said Dan MacDonald, vice president of product management and marketing, Nokia Internet Communications. ``Our service providers will now be able to tailor best of breed security services to reach new markets, and equally as important, be able to leverage their existing investments in Nokia and Check Point infrastructure at the same time.''

``We are pleased to partner with Nokia to integrate VPN-1/FireWall-1 VSX on Nokia's market-leading IP Series appliances,'' said Asheem Chandna, vice president of product management and business development, Check Point Software Technologies. ``Nokia IP Series appliances integrating VPN-1/FireWall-1 VSX will deliver industry-leading scalability, manageability and performance for the data center.''

Nokia will initially offer an integrated solution based on the high performance, highly reliable IP700 series appliance, which is the ideal platform for Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 VSX. The Nokia IP700 series platform will provide support for multiple, but separate, Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 enforcement policies on an individual platform.

Service providers will increase the revenue per square foot through reduced rack space, power consumption, increased customer density, reduced cabling, and lower deployment costs. In addition to creating new market opportunities for service providers, this solution will also enable enterprises to implement multiple security domains in order to address different departmental needs.

Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 VSX will be available on the Nokia IP700 Series platform in June 2002.
