Nokia (NYSE:NOK) today announced the Tradepoint Java Broker Service that enables operators to immediately deploy Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) applications to their customers. Nokia Tradepoint is a business-to-business e-marketplace connecting global service providers with suppliers of mobile applications. Nokia Tradepoint features an on-line environment coupled with a solution matching service containing a wide spectrum of mobile applications, ranging from enterprise to entertainment, and from finance to music and games.
The Tradepoint Java Broker Service from Nokia will enable J2ME developers to easily reach their operator customers by providing access to Nokia channels, segmented and available to connect participants on a global scope.
``The Nokia Tradepoint Java Broker Service streamlines the process of bringing applications to the market,'' said Jouko Hayrynen, Vice President, Forum Nokia. ``Providing developers a one-stop shop that supports tools for development, testing for quality, access to distribution channels and exposure to participants on a global scale demonstrates Nokia's focus on deploying open standards that support universal development. Ultimately, this allows operators to recognize even greater technology utilization by targeting content acquisition, applications and customers in a focused approach.''
Following Nokia's launch of multiple new handsets supporting Java technology, Nokia also announced the expansion of the Nokia OK testing and evaluation service with the addition of two new application-testing houses with global reach and special pricing of $400 each for the first 150 J2ME applications tested. The Nokia OK designation is awarded to third party products and applications that have successfully been tested with a specific Nokia product. The Nokia OK concept makes it easier for customers to identify third party applications and products that can be used with confidence in that they meet the testing criteria set by Nokia.
With Tradepoint Java Broker Service, developers can write applications, and quickly and easily have those applications deployed on multiple mobile and wireless platforms with multiple operator customers. The wireless community and the Java developer community now have the opportunity to buy and sell Java applications targeted for enterprises, XSPs, and operators within a secure, hosted environment.
``We believe that Nokia Tradepoint will assist us in achieving a global reach for our applications. It is a great channel to market for J2ME content providers,'' says Kristian Segerstrale, Head of Business Development at Macrospace, a leading provider of J2ME entertainment solutions based in London, UK.
``We feel that the Nokia Tradepoint Java Broker Service will be an indispensible part of the distribution of NuvoStudios' Java applications worldwide,'' said Dale Crowley, CEO of NuvoStudios, Inc., a developer specializing in creating interactive entertainment products for wireless devices based in San Francisco, U.S.A.
``We see Tradepoint as the right channel for supporting our efforts in reaching new customers in Europe and U.S., as we look at expanding into those regions,'' said Shinichiro Kasama, CEO of Taito Corporation, a leading game developer based in Japan.
