The federal approval process does cost about 250 million. If you add the basic research costs of drug development and all the pre-approval process work that needs to be performed then the amount is staggering.

It does make business sense NOT to chase down cures for rare diseases.......no way around it from a business approach. People don't start companies with the purpose of going broke..........it makes no sense.

The approval process in Europe is less stringent and less costly so some companies might try to get approval in Europe as a second chance............but the big money is in the US marketplace.

Most companies charge less for their drugs in other countries.......we end up subsidizing the rest of the world.
We have more money so we pay more money..........it's unfortunate but true.

I think there is starting to be alot of discussion about people ordering their drugs online from Canada. Some of the drugs are 1/2 price and the generic drugs are 1/4!!!!! That's pretty amazing.
