Let me say, I used to be a Libertarian in my 20's, but then I saw that such things can't work. They're based upon a flawed ideal as much as Marxian communism is (I read about that in my teens). When I read Marx, I knew that it wouldn't work because it didn't accommodate a large motivator of people - their personal enrichment at the expense of others. Any philosophy that either vilifies or deifies this particular attribute of humans is doomed to failure.

Similarly, a libertarian philosophy sounds good until you realize that people would have no checks (no pun intended) on their behavior.

Things for some people could spiral down to a bottomless pit in a truly libertarian society. When I went to Hong Kong, bastion of economic power that it is, I was surprised and shocked to see a hungry, handless/legless man on a wheeled tray peddling pencils with his forearms. Industrial accident no doubt. No, that is not my vision of an ideal world. Socialistic capitalism is here to stay.
