David: Interesting exchange on when to sell. You are showing more market wisdom than your few years of 35. Your philosophy of holding this stock for a number; that number being a date rather than a stock price reminds me of Benjamin Graham's comments in his books, "Security Analysis" and "The Intelligent Investor".
He likened owning a stock and dealing with the day to day stock market fluctuations to having an emotionally disturbed business partner. The partner, Mr. Market, would show up one day offering to buy your share of the business or sell his share to you at some wildly high price. The next day he may propose another offer at a number as equally incomprehensible but on the low side. You would never be sure what number Mr. Market may bring to the table on any given day.
Now, Warren Buffett comes along and picks up the metaphor and professes to all who will listen that Mr. Market is your servant not your guide.
And one final aphorism:
In the short run the market is a voting machine; in the long run it is a weighing machine.
