XML okay for exchange .. but parsing makes it too slow for all but small or medium size files. For bigger things that businesses will need, a fast structured storage is needed, with the speed of a fast database. But maybe Bill is already converting his file system into a "storage" where only his applications have a chance of finding their way. He could then also simplify his programs by letting the storage remember everything, formatting, selections and whatnot. Then noone can use Office without Windows and noone Windows without Office et al. And who cares if their data are in a black hole, they flow freely and easily across .net .. perfect.
