Or in any future. If one designs a system which doesn't allow users to do what you touted in the past "Object linking and embedding", then you are probably doomed. How it is implemented though shouldn't need to concern the user - if it just works. So, there is no way the functionality can ever be removed - but it is possible to change the implementation completely to suit any underlying design. Just imho...
