Iso,
The Utes are mainly a relative valuation call. When the same sectors show up repeatedly at the bottom of the valuation lists, I accumulate them and wait for the trend change. That's drugs, utilities and regional banks this year. Most of my core holdings are up 5% or so this year, and sport 5% dividends to boot. It's better than cash. -g-
Last year my core holdings - DELL, MSFT, SPLS, NWL and TXT - did about 35%. They won't do as well this year, because there are very few sectors with much upside potential. That lack of "slack," so to speak, is one reason I'm not expecting great things for the market this year.
Have been buying the last couple of days - BA, AA, CSC, and TXT - for at least the start of the month rally. May add some highflyers today. Good thing I set a stop on INVN at 47. -g-
