Did you read this stuff about GPRS from the Nokia Newsgroup? Must be wrong?
snip Problems with the 6310 such as locking up while using GPRS and other stuff means that Vodafone Retail won't be taking any more deliveries of the 6310 from Nokia.
It's not all bad news though, they're gonna start stocking the 6310i as soon as it's released!

snip Vodafone (Eircell) has a dispute with Nokia so we haven't seen the 6310 here yet, I wonder if it may affect the UK vodafone. snap
snip Nokia have used us the paying public to beta test yet another phone I have 2 of the things and things they are absolutely appalling audio quality is bad, even worse in a genuine nokia car kit restarts its self randomly and locks up

Poor batch?
--
yeh, there's something untoward there. Faulty batch maybe?? I know I go through areas where the 8210 held on no prob and on this 8310 it drops or isn't there to start with. The reception bars are also far fewer 100% of the time. that together with the pain of texting.... not impressed.

and Nokia on 8310

Nokia CC Nov 2001 Snip
The shipment of Nokia 8310, our first GPRS phone, began at the end of Sept as planed. So far, the product has been delivered for testing to ninety operators in Europe and thirty six operators in the Asia Pacific. The feedback we have received so far, on the phone performance has been very positive. The shipment of the Nokia 6310 and the Nokia 8390, designed for the Americas market, are scheduled to start during the fourth quarter. We are currently in the middle of a fast volume ramp up and expect our overall GPRS shipment volumes to be in the millions during the current quarter. We estimate that our market share in GPRS in the fourth quarter will be roughly equivalent to our total global market share. We believe that one of the drivers for the next growth phase will be packet data. The always on connectivity together with the higher data rates and multimedia messaging will enable completely new kind of products and categories together with applications and services. We believe that 2002 will be the year of multimedia, color screens and packet data services. snap |
