Telefonica intends to bid for Area 4 (Minas Gerais, including Belo Horizonte) and Area 7 (Center-West, including Brasília). PT intends to bid for Area 10, comprising six northeastern states from Alagoas to Piauí. That leaves only Area 8 (Amazon) uncovered, which is not densely populated and already has four wireless players. Bids will be delivered to ANATEL, Brazil's telecom regulator, on March 5.

I think that article is a little old....this never happened. As far as I know, the auction that was slated to begin on the 13th was cancelled....they had ZERO bids.

I still dont like to hear that PT/TEF were considering GSM in Brazil...but I think I need some collaborating evidence to get really worried. I skipped around a little on PT's presentation today but didnt hear any mention of a GSM overlay....and they talked extensively about Brazil.

BTW....it's a little odd to see a Nokia presentation not being webcast. I cant ever remember seeing a list of on-line presentations and the Nokia presentation not having an active link. It is by the "Head of 3G Marketing Positioning".

Wonder why....
