The deaths of all those Jews hung over the West like a bad cloud because the West was unwilling to do something until it was too late. Talk about callous and mean spirited; only when Hitler threatened to spill over and completely over run Europe and the British Isles did the allies do a full court press. It wasn't that the Jews did or didn't deserve Israel; its that they didn't deserve to die in one of Hitler's gas chamber.

That wasn't why they got it, really- it was just why they got it with such a sense of urgency- it had been in the works for many years before World War II.

The reason why the Jews need a state of their own so badly is because historically, whereever they've gone, they've been persecuted. I personally didn't believe that there really needed to be a Jewish homeland until last year. I didn't think that rampant anti-semitism existed anymore. That changed with the UN Racism conference last year, when Arafat managed to turn the conference into an anti-Israel, anti-Jewish conference, and most of the world (other than the U.S. and a couple of other countries) either joined in or just sat and watched. It was at that point where I came to believe that it could happen all over again.

Never has a group of people been persecuted for so long.
