New topic:

There was a lengthy discussion on this thread about a funny joke (except for a bloody reference that no non-psychopath would think funny imo) because the joke made sport of the Moslem 72 virgin belief that helps motivate suicide murderers.

Here's an amusing joke at the expense of atheists and liberals I just saw on IHub. I've got no objection to it or to any other atheist joke I've ever heard. (I might judge the joke to be lame as a joke, of course. Funniness is all, in jokes.) This joke could have any religions substituted and would be equally amusing (or not, according to one's sense of humor and generic objection to making a joke based on religion.) Does anyone think this joke shouldn't have been made? Does any atheist object to it? Just wondering.

<<A young woman teacher with obvious liberal tendencies explains to her
class of small children that she is an atheist. She asks her class if
they are atheists too. Not really knowing what atheism is but wanting to
be like their teacher, their hands explode into the air like fleshy
fireworks.

There is, however, one exception. A beautiful girl named Lucy has not
gone along with the crowd. The teacher asks her why she has decided to be
different. "Because I'm not an atheist."

Then, asks the teacher, what are you?

"I'm a Christian." says Lucy.

The teacher is a little perturbed now, her face slightly red. She asks
Lucy why she is a Christian. "Well, I was brought up knowing and loving
Jesus. My mom is a Christian, and my dad is a Christian, so I am a
Christian."

The teacher is now agitated. "That's no reason," she says forcefully.
"What if your mom was a moron, and your dad was a moron. What would you
be then?"

A pause, and a smile. "Then," says Lucy, "I'd be an atheist." >>

So... does anyone object to this joke? Anyone at all? I sure don't. I think the conceit of having Lucy be "beautiful" adds an extra touch of comedy, though it wasn't intended by the joke creator to be comic in quite the way it is, I suspect.
