My pal tried linux, just for his servers, and hated it despite the fact that he's a dynamite programmer C and Java. In other words he's not afraid of arcane interfaces. He's interested in OSX though from what he's seen on my Mac.

Yes all those features are available on PC's, however many people are very aware of the headaches of video or periferals on PC's. Personally I've tried to do video on a PC, the minute I saw firewire video on Macs I was sold on firewire on the Mac. Basically that's a huge reason that I'm 99% Mac although I own both types. ALL my periferals are on my Mac. By the way I built my Athlon from scratch so I'm pretty windows literate. I'm impartial and critique Apple harshly enough and realistically praise PC for what they deserve enough that I'm considered a PC guy on some forums.

Actually I think most people here are probably tired of hearing my rants about the OSX interface.

The iMac itself is the draw as is OSXs potential. So if one is going to learn new tech, one might decide that it's better to jump ships before investing time in a new tech on an old leaky ship.
